AI and the Lean Startup

The Lean Startup was created by Eris Ries in his 2011 book by the same name, and is influenced heavily by Steve Blank’s customer development methodology.

The process of being lean is all about “the reduction of waste”. You are lean if you get to the answer you want whilst not producing artefacts that are not needed.

AI makes MVP creation easier than it has ever been, but that does not mean it is being used in a lean way. It only takes one extra sentence and the AI has created something that resembles a fully working product.

The problem is if you build too much too fast, you ultimately end up building something (with a potentially large code base) that does not meet the needs of the user and is thrown away. Behind the scenes AI tokens are being used to power this creation of throw away systems.

Being lean in the AI world means to produce the minimum prototype as quickly as possible and use it to validate customer demand. Anything more than an MVP is wasteful, no matter how quickly it is made.
