Why copying strategy is a bad idea
A strategy is a defined destination with a set of actions that will take you from where you are now to the destination.
This information is laden with context. That context dictates the actions that are needed to fulfil your strategy.
In her book “Mindfulness” the author demonstrates the importance of context, and how information without context is almost meaningless. For example - if I asked you if jumping off a cliff is a good idea you would probably say no. But if I added the context that you were being chased by a 100 hungry lions I think you’d take your chance with gravity.
This is why copying successful strategies from others is not a recipe for success. The strategy worked for them because of their context and where they wanted to be. Copying their strategy will only work if you are in the exact same position.
Summary
- Strategies are highly contextual
- Copying a strategy directly will only work if your context is the same
- Use the strategies of others as inspiration
