Great Innovators Create the Future, Manage the Present, and Selectively Forget the Past

This article is an excerpt of the book “The Three Box Solution: A strategy for leading innovation”. It argues that you need to spend time on three activities:
- Maintaining the current successful products
- Innovating to develop new products/services
- Removing old items that prevent point 2 from succeeding
Point 1 is very alluring, it is easy to create short term roadmaps (tactics) to optimise something that works (ref Knowledge Funnel) at the exclusion of everything else. The problem is that product maturity is real, and this will only lead so far. It further argues that the future is created in small steps - not massive leaps.
